A PINK PARADISE THAT WAS AHEAD OF ITS TIME Many of the Jaipur's buildings were designed in the Rajasthani architectural style, which blends Hindu Rajput building techniques with the symmetrical Mughal style. Jaipur was also a city that was ahead of its time, as it was India's first planned city. Jaipur became known as “The Pink City” when, in 1876, Maharaja Ram Singh had most of the buildings painted pink—the color of hospitality—in preparation for a visit by Britain's Queen Victoria.
